Can Painkillers Cause A Spike In Sugar Levels?

Question: Hello doctor
I am i have a diabetics level 130 to 140
So my quation is i am not taking any medicine i am maintaining through exercise only ,i have a cold an d body pian today so can i take painkiller for this . could this medicine increase the suger level ???

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

Considering Fasting 130 & post-prandial blood sugar 140, these can be accepted as good control but need to be corelated with HbA1c level.

Keep following regular exercise & diabetic diet.

For cold & body ache I may suggest use of decongestant with Paracetamol like Tab Cheston Cold along with antacid like omeprazole.
These medicines would not affect blood sugar control.

Insulin resistance.

Detailed Answer:
Type 2 diabetes is due to insulin resistance ie. there is increased requirement of insulin by body.
Depending upon level of insulin resistance at the level of liver and muscle and other tissues blood sugar levels varies.

Usually fasting blood sugar level depends upon glucose production by liver. And post meal blood sugar level depends upon glucose utilization by muscles and other tissues.

Insulin resistance varies at these two levels thats why some time due to high insulin resistance at liver causes relatively high fasting blood sugar level than post meal.

Beside this major factor many other factors may contribute.
