Can Persistent Hives And MS Cause Lupus?

Question: Hello,
I have had persistent hives for over 20 years. It started when I was 23. I have been to several allergist and have taken all kinds of allergy tests and nothing ever comes up.
I was diagnosed with MS 4 years ago and now my primary had an initial test possibly showing lupus.
Could any of these diseases explain the hives and is there something else that might have been missed all these years. I have taken steroids for all these years on and off all this time and sometimes for months at a time. I also have had injections and now infusions of steroids for my MS. The hives never go away for more than a few months before they come back.
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Yes, lupus explains hives.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Lupus is auto immune disease affecting almost all organs of the body especially kidneys, skin, heart, lungs etc.. And so hives cannot be due to lupus.
If steroids are not showing any lesions then other immunosuppressive drugs like methotrexate or azathioprine can be tried.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone skin biopsy?
2. Have you ever undergone serum IgE level?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
