Can Pregnancy Test After 2 Days Of PEP Be Accurate?
I talk with u before
For remember :
I’m 27 y old male , medically free , circumcised , STDs free
I had one exposure insertive penile to vaginal to girl unkown status , in high risk country ( Thailand )
I used condom but broken last 2 min maximum , I asked her many times about her status she said I’m not sick and also said I have 2 child
In same day 16 hours I started my PEP TLD
Now I’m in 26 days on pep ( perfect adherence) with no side effects and no symptoms and no other exposure for sure
As u know , I will finish my PEP course tomorrow
I want to ask u dr about testing after 2 days of PEP
Is it useful ( 4th generation ) and XXXXXXX ? Because some Drs near to me said pep unlikely to affect the result in case like my case and also I saw some Drs here in health care majic in previous Qs said same things
So what is ur advise dr , I want to cut this issue from my mind and focus in my life again .
Thanks so much dr , I trust u
Follow the guidelines of PEP properly
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As per the recommendations of PEP we have to perform antibody tests on days 0, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. The first two tests is to know whether you had been infected already or in window period. If so we have to start regular ART.
PEP will abort the infection if any when it is started well earlier before 72 hours as it is with your case. So not to bother about an infection.
In case, if we consider, if your infection already established, then PEP will definitely affect the antibody formation, but not the appearance of HIV 1 P24 antigen (4th generation test) and XXXXXXX But both these (P 24 detection and NAT) tests are for HIV 1 only and not for HIV 2 which is a rare possibility. The tests done after 6 months will rule out both HIV 1 and HIV 2 (4th generation test (antibody detection part) and other antibody detection tests like ELISA and Rapid tests. So it is always better for you to resume your sex life with your spouse 6 moths after the exposure, Till then sexual abstinence or protected sex is advised.
