Can Protonix Be Taken To Treat Congestion?

other doctor tested and put me on the protonix and it did not help at all ...even got worse..now what?
reduces acid production in the stomach
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Protonix is used for GERD, gastritis. It is a proton pump inhibitor that helps reduce acid production in the stomach, if you have this problem then it would help. Reflux can be a cause of persistent cough, if this is a problem.
It would not be useful for nasal congestion or chest congestion however.
If you are having nasal congestion then the use of a topical and/or oral decongestant would be helpful.
Topical decongestants include oxymetazoline or xylometazoline. Oral decongestants include pseudoephredrine or phenyephrine. These would be available over the counter.
If you are having chest congestion then a mucolytic to help to break up the mucus in the chest so that it can be easier to be expelled.
Examples of mucolytics are guaifenesin, mucomyst, bisolvan.
I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions
