Can Psoriatic Arthritis Cause Crust On The Scalp?
Question: I have had a patch on my skin, in the small of my back that seems thicker than my other skin with bumps in it. It doesn't hurt or itch but occasionally itches mildly. When I scratch it I get white powdery stuff under my fingernails. It is about the size of my hand. I went to a doctor today about a crust in my hair covering my whole scalp. The doctor shrugged and said to call a dermatologist. I wouldn't be concerned but a have developed very painful arthritis in the past few years that has progressed rapidly. I heard something about psoriatic arthritis so I wonder if there may be a link. My daughter is a nurse and she says she has never heard of it.

Brief Answer:
Perhaps you have psoriasis. Images would be helpful
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
From your description of the morphology (itchy, scaly plaques) and the distribution of patches (lower back and scalp), it does seem like you have plaque psoriasis.
Psoriatic arthritis may affect a lot of psoriasis patients. There is a definite link.
It would be great if you can take help of someone in your family or customer care team of HealthcareMagic regarding uploading the images.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
