Question: hello,
.
STATEMENT: My FEBRUARY 15, 2016, MRI and its report are on file
.
QUESTION 1:When a certain cervical level is mentioned in an MRI report, such as the "c5-c6 level" (before they become “nerve roots”), can the radiologist/neurosurgeon, determine from the MRI, which specific nerves, identifiable by each nerve's name, within MY spinal cord (ganglia?), are being compressed?
.
QUESTION 2: At the time the MRI was taken, Can the radiologist/neurosurgeon, determine from the MRI, which specific nerves within MY spinal cord (ganglia?), before they become “nerve roots”,were still reversible and those that were irreversible or ONLY a prediction of % probability?
.
QUESTION 3: Can the radiologist/neurosurgeon, determine from the MRI, which specific nerves within MY spinal cord (ganglia?), have ARE GOING TO BE reversible and those that WILL NOT BE irreversible or ONLY a prediction of % probability?

Brief Answer:
There is no specific name for spinal nerves.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There is no specific name for spinal nerves. These are only described by their level from which they exit. Nerve roots are named in case of cranial nerves like olfactory nerve, optic nerve etc.

The effect of compression on the nerve roots or the spinal cord depends upon many things like their level, duration of compression etc. It depends upon blood supply status.

In some cases, they are partially reversible whereas it may be irreversible also. No one can certainly comment on the outcome. Only a probability can be given.
