Can Severe Cough Cause Pain On The Left Side Of Abdomen?

Question: Good afternoon. I developed a viral cold Tuseday and have been coughing a lot from the irritation in my throat. I'm almost well but yesterday morning I developed a pain in my abdomen just above my hip on the left side of my body. Do I need to go to the doctor now or could this be just a strained muscle?
Brief Answer:
Likely to be muscular
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good afternoon.
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Since the pain is on the left side of the abdomen, it's likely to be due to muscular pain from your coughing. If you have constipation, it can also contribute to the pain.
If you are worried about appendicitis, it's not, as appendix is on the right .
