Can Simple Liver Cysts Be Distinguished From Liver Metastasis On A CT Scan?

Question: Can simple liber cysts be distinguished from liver mets on a ct?
Brief Answer:
Yes,it can be distinguished by CT scan.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Simple liver cysts and metastasis can be distinguished by ultrasound or CT scan.
Simple liver cysts are clear fluid containing cysts.
Whereas liver metastasis are generally mixed or solid in nature. However,it may be cystic in some cases.
Wall of cysts also helps in distinguishing simple cysts and mets.Mets generally have thick and enhancing wall whereas wall is thin in simple cysts and it is non enhancing in simple cysts.
Metastasis tends to involve whole liver whereas simple cysts are more prevalent in right lobe.
Findings should be corroborated clinically also.
Hope i have answered your query.
