I appreciate your concern

Statins are important medication for hyperlipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Usually Statins are very well tolerated. However, in up to 5 % of patients using atorvastatin insomnia can occur. Insomnia can lead to mental distress. No other specific psychiatric side effect is commonly associated with statins such as self harm. However, if a particular statin is not tolerated then other options like rosuvastatin ,simvastatin etc can be given a trial, in consult with your doctor.
