Can Synovial Fluid Leaking Into The Arm And Strep Throat Be Related?

Question: I have a rotator cuff tear that occurred at Thanksgiving. Can the loss of synovial fluid into the shoulder and arm cavity (possible causing a septic condition) cause re-occurring strep-throat. I haven't been coughing, sneezing or had a runny nose. It is now 4/12/2018 and my doctor has jacked around and still not repaired the tear. I have pain down to my elbow area and severe pain when I lie down to try to sleep in my shoulder braid area behind the tear. I keep have returning strep throat even after first treatment of a z-pack and antibiotic shot. After 7 days showed clear of strep throat. Three days later it returned. Then Amoxcyilin and another stronger antibiotic shot. Still have strep throat. now I am on Cephalexin and another shot, waiting to complete this bottle. Due to opioid problems in usa, he only gave me a short term prescription of Tramadol. I am 63 and my immune system isn't great and my doctor has been an asshole as far as pain treatment. Having a tear for this long i'm afraid I may be getting septic, but can't have repairs due to the strep throat. Can these two problems be related (synovial fluid leaking into arm and my strep throat?

Brief Answer:
Yes, the two symptoms can be related.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, the two problems can be related. Recurrent strep throat can cause rheumatic fever.

In simple words when the infection of the throat is not treated properly it can influence the immune system. That way, the immune system can attack different parts of the body like joints causing arthritis.

I suggest the following examinations:

- A complete blood count
- Level of rheumatoid factor in blood
- An x ray of the shoulder
- A blood culture

After the examinations, your doctor can determine the appropriate antibiotic to treat the infection. Don't worry, with the proper treatment you will feel better in a few weeks.

Hope my answer was helpful.
