The spirochaetes can pass through intact genital mucosal surfaces and therefore are present in infected genital secretions & on genital surfaces of an infected individual. Therefore, syphilis can be transmitted even without any genital sores. However, since spirochaete are liable and dies quickly on drying therefore they usually need a moist environment to survive like mucosae and condyloma XXXXXXX (moist papules in body folds).
