Can The Rabies Virus Be Transmitted Through Mucous Membranes?

I fed a stray cat with a glass of milk. I used my glass to pour milk in the cats bowl... im sure that the glass did not touch the cats bowl.. my daughter picked the glass n licked it.. im just curious if the glass had touched the cats bowl n if the cat was rabid and the bowl had cats saliva then does my daughter who is 18 months old require a vaccine? She licked the glass after an hour of me pouring milk in the bowl.. my daughter had earlier got 4 doses of rabies vaccine before 5 months for non bite exposure.. does she have enough immunity against tabies or does she require a
Booster? Can i wait for 10'days to see if something happens to the cat.. the cat is pregnant n is not showing any signs of being rabid or ill.. can i put booster to be on safer side? If yes then how many booster doses would i need... can rabies spread through mucous membranes if i touch cats bowl n eat with the same hand without washing?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Rabies virus is usually transmitted through a bite from an infected animal only. So if the animal is not dying within 10 days so no need any vaccination at all. The virus does not spread through mucous membranes.
Regarding vaccination, as she has already taken primary immunization then she needs only 2 doses after exposer only on day 1 and 3.
Do take preventive steps like this -
1) Try to vaccinate your pets. Ask your veterinarian how often your pets should be vaccinated.
2)Keep your pets confined. Keep your pets inside and supervise them when outside. This will help keep your pets from coming in contact with wild animals.
3) Don't approach wild animals. Wild animals with rabies may seem unafraid of people.so stay away from any animal that seems unafraid.
4) Consider the rabies vaccine ask your doctor for Pre-exposure vaccination for preventive.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
"As" per your query please follow my reply -
1) Yes, it can protect you as have taken primary immunization.
2) Rabies virus is spread through the saliva of infected animals. Infected animals can spread the virus by biting and in rare cases, it can be spread when infected saliva gets into an open wound, such as the mouth or eyes. This could occur if an infected animal were to lick an open cut on your skin only.So if you have no open wound then it can not spread even if you touch it in hand.
3)Yes, you have to wait and observe for 10 days and if the animal dies then you can take 2 vaccines only.
