Can Tibial Plateau Fracture Be Detected By CT Scan Or MRI?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: I had a positive tibial plateau fracture but he wants a CT scan not an MRI. I just recently just had knee surgery for meniscal and ligament tears. (2 months ago)
I have tried to walk with partial weight bearing and crutches but only for a week before that I was bearing full weigh until it got so bad I could no longer bear weight and that was when he found the fx.

Brief Answer:
CT scan needs to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bony abnormality and fractures can be detected both by a CT scan and an MRI scan. The knee surgery that you had recently might interfere with proper MRI images. So it is best to get a CT scan done as advised. Do not bear any weight on the leg. Take rest and follow your orthopedician's advice.
I hope this answers your query.
