Can Traveling To Exotic Country's Have Risk Of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis And Mucosal Leishmaniasis ?
Question: Hello - i love to travel - with my family, but i would like to stay positive !
I know that traveling to exotic country's have risk of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis and Mucosal Leishmaniasis
Mucosal Leishmaniasis - is more sever
as i undestand most important is early treatment -
. Adequate systemic treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by these species may reduce the risk for mucosal disease, but some risk may remain. The magnitudes and determinants (parasite and host factors) of the risks for mucosal dissemination and for mucosal disease per se are poorly understood; even for the same species (for example, L. [V.] braziliensis), the risks appear to vary among geographic regions in the Americas.

So if i treat cutaneous leishmaniasis early - my risk is low for Mucosal Leishmaniasis ?
and Mucosal Leishmaniasis early treatment will it reduce risk of more damage ?
As it was said in literature that cure rate may vary
The cure rate for the 36 patients who had “mild” disease (i.e., affecting nasal skin and nasal mucosa) was 83%. The cure rate for the 36 patients who had more extensive disease (involving the palate, pharynx, and larynx) was 58%

Oral pentoxifylline in
combination with Sbv was initially used
in 10 refractory cases of ML (absence
of cure after at least 3 series of Sbv),
obtaining cure in 90% of patients. A
subsequent randomized controlled trial
in patients with treatment-naive ML
showed cure rate of 100% in the group

So i like think positive --
early treatment will reduce risk of Mucosal Leishmaniasis
and Mucosal Leishmaniasis early treatment has high effectivness
Am I right ?

Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma’am, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but mucosal leishmaniasis usually occur years after the original cutaneous infection if untreated properly. So, yes early treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis will prevent mucosal leishmaniasis and early treatment of mucosal leishmaniasis will prevent complications.. I hope you find this helpful..

Thank you
1. it is said that old wolrd - is resolve by own
Cutaneous leishmaniasis acquired in the Old World tends to resolve spontaneously (eg, L major from Iraq), but patients with this infection should receive treatment if the lesions are disfiguring, painful, infected, over joints, or slow to heal.
So in conclusion - it rarely need treatment
and it is no associated with - mucocutaneous leishmaniasis
2.antimonials as treatment drug have side effects -
Treatment with oral miltefosine could have major benefits for CL patients, especially as second-line treatment for patients whose lesion(s) do not respond to the standard antimonial treatment, or for whom systemic antimony treatment is contraindicated (e.g. patients with cardiac, hepatic, renal or diabetic disease).
as i undestand Cutaneous leishmaniasis treatment can some side effects
an in every situation the best drug in each case is chased - avoid serious side effects
is it so ?
3. Old World Cutaneous leishmaniasis does not recurre
as i read it in literature !
Than you very much

Brief Answer:
I wouldn’t recommend
Detailed Answer:
Dear ma’am, hello again.. I would not recommend letting leishmaniasis resolve on its own as medication side effects are not comparable to possible complications.. I hope you find this helpful..
