Can Tryptomer For Depression Cause High Heart Rate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi: Last week my mother 65 , had a high pulse rate of 150, came back to normal after doctors medicine. She is taking Tryptomer 10 mg daily twice for 7 years for her depression. Now suspecting the high pulse may be due to tryptomer. All the blood result, thyroid, echo , heart all are normal. So shall we stop the medicine slowly. Few years back she tried to stop but she lost her sleep so she continued. Pls advice
Brief Answer:
Stop the medicine
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
I am Dr Mittal
I think you should stop the medicine. There is no point in giving the medicine simply because she cannot sleep. That is not a good reason to give the medicine. If she cant sleep without it, you should probably consult the good doctor treating her to help her stop the medicine, instead of doing all the tests.
She can be given other tablets and injections till she is off tryptomer completely. This way we can get her off the medicine. Care needs to be taken that he does not become dependant on the next medicine.
A close observation may be needed and she may need to be admitted
If I can help you in any way, let me know
Best of luck
Dr Mittal
