Can Turmeric Be Taken Along With NSAID For Osteoarthritis?
Question: what is the risk of using turemic for osteo arthritis and a NASID together?
Brief Answer:
they should not be used together
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for the question.
Both drugs increase the risk of bleeding. They both interfere with platelet function and thus can increase the risk of bleeding.
They are both also anti-inflammatory so using them together should not really be necessary.
Turmeric is safer than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents so if you have to pick one I would stick with the turmeric.
A single occasion of mixing the drugs will probably not do any harm but it is not advisable to take both together on an ongoing basis.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
