My endo wants me on metformin for pcos. I am not diabetic or pre but do have borderline insulin resistance. What side effects does metformin have? My endo says if I continue to eat well & exercise it will help grately w weight loss

Insulin resistance (though not significantly high in laboratory values) and obesity are the main reason for irregular periods in PCOS .
Metformin helps in insulin resistance and there by induced ovulation and regularises cycle in some women. Hence it is advisable to stay on metformin as it helps. There are no worrying side effects of this.
Weight loss if you are obese or overweight will surely help. No doubt about it. Please follow good diet and exercise regimen to lose weight.
