Question: Yes hello. Can I treat an upper respiratory infection with Macrobid? Its what I have on hand.

No, you should not use Macrobid for upper respiratory tract infection.

Macrobid contains Nitrofurantoin.

Nitrofurantoin is an antibacterial agent specifically uses for urinary tract infections.

At home you can gargle 3 to 4 times a day for upper respiratory tract infection.

For upper respiratory tract infection, I advise my patient for complete blood test and anti allergic Tab- Allegra 120 mg twice a day for 5 days
