Hello, welcome to ask a doctor services.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You are suffering from knee pain and your uric acid level is detected to be 5.2. I can understand your concern.
Normal uric acid level for women commonly ranges from 2.5 to 7.5 mg/dL Since you have knee pain it may be indicative of Gout, OA, osteoarthritis or RE, rheumatoid arthritis. Get X-ray and imaging tests done.
It is very important to get an accurate laboratory report. Four (4 hrs) hours before taking the test you should ideally fast (refrain from eating or drinking) for accurate report.
Avoid alcohol. High level of vitamin C and medications like ibuprofen may interfere with the test report & affect its accuracy.
It has been seen that uric acid level less than 6.0 mg/dL can also causes patients to suffer from painful inflammation of the joints.
You are advised to follow strict diet control and do exercises and walking regularly to get control over the uric acid level.
You are also advised to get a repeat uric acid test done as explained to get accurate report. You should also get blood and imaging tests done to rule out any developing OA, osteoarthritis or RE, rheumatoid arthritis to stay on the safer side.
Get clinically examined and evaluated by a local doctor, Physician and also get connected to a Physical therapist for you will need to do regular exercises under guidance and observation for the best result.
You are advised to take low purine, anti-inflammatory diet. Take home-made balanced food. Avoid taking full fat dairy products, take skimmed milk and other low fat dairy products instead.
You have to take food cooked only in olive oil, take well-cooked whole grains and cereals. Take more vegetables, fruits and berries.
Caffeinated coffee helps to reduce uric acid level. Stay away from alcohol, avoid taking red meat. You can only take a few pieces of lean meat. Avoid carbohydrate and sugary desserts and beverages.
Do not take seafood. It will raise uric acid level & trigger pain. Regular exercise and walking will help reduce pain. You can take pain relieving medications for relieve. You can apply pain relieving sprays, it is helpful.
You can also connect with a nutritionist. Following strict diet control and regular exercises will help to reduce uric acid level. After 45 days you are advised to re-check & get repeat tests done to detect improvement.
Even if you are satisfied with the reports, you are advised to follow the diet & lifestyle changes. It will be beneficial for you.
