Can Vaccines Give A False Positive For HV2?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: I went to the OBGYN to do a pap smear. She read my blood results from couple months ago from my previous blood test (never got the results). She said that the blood test showed strains of HV2 but she didn't seem sure and wanted to do couple more test. Before I had the test, I was given Zithromax because I had a scare( i was just paranoid..no STD)..but I was given the pill in advance..just in case. Is it possible to have a false positive...is that even a positive.?..all she said was that there were strains of Hv2. Can vaccines give a false positive..?because I was given anthrax shot, HEP B shot..flu shot last year. PS. Im in the military and Im given many immunizations!

Brief Answer:
Herpes Testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I have gone through your concern.

I would like to gather some more information from you in order to be able to help you better.

--Did you ever had fluid filled vesicles Or painful erosions on the genitals?
--Any history of cold sore?
--Tell me a bit about your sexual history? Your sexual partners?Single or multiple?Any history of unprotected sexual intercourse?Or any history of oral sex?

Zithromax is Azithromycin, which is an oral antibiotic whereas Herpes is caused by a virus. She must have given you Azithromycin for some other indication, but not for Herpes.

Herpes can show up as IgG or IgM positivity on ELISA Testing.

False positive tests can occur with ELISA Testing for Herpes but that is not related to previous vaccinations for unrelated diseases

Any history of unprotected sexual intercourse?Or any history of oral sex? YES BUT BOTH ME & MY HUSBAND HAS NEVER HAD ANY COLD SORE OR GENITAL SORES..WE'RE BOTH IN THE MILITARY SO WE ARE CONSTANTLY GETTING TESTED...WITH ALL NEGATIVE RESULTS.

PS. I was given the Zithromax without before the results because I was worried.

Brief Answer:
HSV testing

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I would also suggest that in such a case it is also advisable to get your husband tested too for HSV by ELISA since he is the only person with whom you have been sexually involved. If he tests negative, then most likely your's was a false positive result.
