Can Very Low Dose Of Xanax For Severe Anxiety/nervous Tension Cause Leg Pain?
Question: Hello, doctor. I have severe anxiety/nervous tension. My doctor prescribed a very low dose of xanax but even at the lowest dose and taking very seldom, it makes me feel very dizzy w/nausea. I also suffer from frequent leg cramps/aching legs. My doctor suggested Klonopin but before the change, I just read online and heard from a friend that Klonopin causes and/or makes leg issues worse. Could u please give me your feedback on that one specific side effect (being leg pain) in terms of xanax vs klonopin? Thanks so much.
Brief Answer:
May or may not be higher/lower chance
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read your query and understand your concerns about the leg pain as side effect of benzodiazepines.
Although leg pain is infrequent side effect of both the medications (alprazolam and clonazepam) there is no data to suggest that it is more common with either of these medications. It is possible that you may not have leg pain as side effect while using Clonazepam and vise versa.
However my clinical experience indicates that rather than changing the medication it will be appropriate to try lower dosage of prescribed xanax which will probably cause less leg pain as well as sedation.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
