Question: Can vigorous exercise cause bleeding with mirena? It was inserted about 14 weeks ago. Bleeding occurs for a few hours after I exercise, then stops. How long can it take for mirena to settle?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

As a matter of fact, exercise can be resumed as soon as you feel comfortable with the IUD, be it the next day after insertion or after a week or two. Severe exercise can displace the IUD downward and this can be noticed if you feel the strings. This can cause discomfort and spotting.

Since you are experiencing spotting after exercise each time, it cannot be hormonal. You should see a specialist and get properly checked for the position and any associated injury.

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
