Can Vitamin-C Serum Be Used During Pregnancy?
Question: I am 22 weeks pregnant and have been using on over the counter vitamin c topical serum for the last 10 days. I noticed today that hyaluronic acid is listed as an ingredient on the label. In review of this product, there is no definitive literature on it on the internet to say if it is safe or not. Concentration is anywhere from 5-20%. I have stopped using it but an worried about negative or adverse affects. Please advise. Thank you
Brief Answer:
No harm if used for short period.....not enough evidence though
Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,
I understand your concern.
Hyaluronic acid is considered safe when using during pregnancy especially at your actual age.
However, as you already said, not enough evidence to show side effects when using during pregnancy.
Anyway, if you have used only for a few days, and taking into account the actual big size of the molecule of hyaluronic acid (which cannot penetrate in between the skin molecules, thus making it difficult to get it absorbed ) it won't harm your baby hopefully.
Try to relax and concentrate on your healthy pregnancy.
Good luck to you and your baby!
