Can We Do This Surgery During Summer Days Instead Of Winter Or Rainy Days ?

Question: Hi,
My Daughter is a pre term born in 26 weeks and had a GradeIV haemophrage in brain after 3 days she was born.
We pursed all Occupational therapy after she was born with continous follow ups with developmental paeditrics speciality doctors.
we were advised to continue physio therapy and my daughter was put AFO shoes to use regularly as she has stiffness in her right leg behind ankle.

Now she is 7 years old with Tendo Achillities Tightness for which we are advised to go Tendo Achillities Lengthning Surgery since her problem did not resolve inspite all the exercises and therapy we did.

Question :
1.She is 7 years old now ,Is this the right age for this surgery ?
2.After this surgery , will she be able to walk normally ?
3.Any chances of this surgery to be repeated depending on her growth (as doc says that her growth will again cause some contraction)
4.Any side Effects ?
5.Can we do this surgery during summer days instead of winter or rainy days ? which is the best time to do ?

Please Advise.

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Please read below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
I have read the question and will answer them one by one.
1. Timing of surgery - Timing depends on the problem . If she is unable to walk properly then she needs surgery. Also in long term there are other changes in the limb( compensatory changes like knee bending, Muscle weakness ) which tend to become permanent. So it is better to have surgery on time.
2.After surgery- there would be improvement on walking, but since the brain controls the muscles, the tightness may remain and gait may not be normal .
3.As she grows , the deformity can recur- and re surgery may be required.
4.No gross side effects but you have to discuss this with surgeon.
5. Best time for this kind of surgery is winters ,since wound healing is better. Also plaster is tolerated better.
I do hope to have answered your questions satisfactorily.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
Thanks.
