Can We Lower Keppra 750mg Twice A Day Dosage Without Any Problems?
Question: Hi, My son has been diagnosed with a large arachnoid cyst (9 by 5 cm). I have all the investigation reports and images. He had had a few symptoms of brain fogginess. In the last 10 days, he has had 2 or 3 black-out symptoms where he lost consciousness for a little bit (30-45 seconds). I would like to get a diagnosis on what should be done to address his symptoms and also how do we handle the cyst. This is not cancerous I believe. Would like to consult with a neurologist who has had experience in this area. He has been prescribed keppra 750mg twice a day since they think these incidents might have been seizures. He has been pretty sleep since he started on keppra 48 hrs ago. I also want to know if its the right medicine and dosage for his symptoms. Can we lower his dosage without any problems since we are worried this might be too high
Brief Answer:
Further examinations needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your question and saw the MRI report that you uploaded. Regarding the MRI report, the cyst is large with some compression on brain tissue, but stable and chronic. This is not cancerous, it is a brain developmental issue since birth. Regarding seizures and their treatment, first is necessary for an EEG of the brain. Levetiracetam is the appropriate medicine to control seizures when the right diagnosis is achieved. Initially, the dose of levetiracetam is 500 mg twice daily, regarding the body weight.
Discuss with your Neurologist these issues.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
Thanks.
