Can Wintergreen Essential Oil Spilled On The Skin Be Dangerous?

Question: Can wintergreen essential oil spilled on the skin be dangerous? I bought some and it came in the mail today. It was in a bubble wrap. As I unwrapped it got all over my hands. It was about 1/6 of a 15ml bottle that leaked out. I called poison control and they told me to wash my hands for 10 min. under water. Then I called the lady that sold it to me and she said that water would "drive" it deeper into my system and to use olive oil. I am getting contradictory answers and was wondering if a real doctor could set me straight?

First and foremost let me reassure you there is no cause for concern.
Wintergreen oil has no ill effects on coming in contact with intact skin. Exposure to mucosa and cut skin surface is to be avoided.

1. Wash the area thorough with hand wash and lots of water

2. Rest be relaxed
