Thanks for the answer Dr. XXXXXXX Would you recommend my daughter for deworming now then? I realize it could also be a sign of asthma. Lately, the wheeze is not so much of an issue, it is the cough that's rather persistent and doesn't seem to go away. She used to have night sweats and fever sometimes too, but not anymore for the past few months. Can this also be part of worm infestation? I notice that this the cough and vomiting will be more prominent during the full phase of the moon. Coincidently, old folks mentioned that worms in the bowels tend to unwind from its 'ball' to look for food during the full moon. I have no real previous records as she is not on regular follow-up for her problem. Last visit to the peds clinic, she was given antihistamine and syr leftlose (what is this for?). The salb puffs were advised by other previous pediatricians to give whenever she gets an urti, so that it doesn't get worse and develop into wheeze. The antibiotics would be given when there is persistent or high fever more than 3 days that doesn't seem to settle with PCM alone, or if the cough seems to be worsened or more than 10 days. About 1-2 months ago she also had an episode of watery diarrhoea with fever for 1 week. BTW, I am a doctor by radiology profession, very little pediatric experience.
Brief Answer:
Yes you can start deworming.
Detailed Answer:
Regarding your query doctor I can tell you that you can start deworming after consulting her doctor..as deworming is recommended halfyearly in children. So it will not be a problem
But before that you need to have a complete blood count, PEFR, sputum study.
To rule out other causes.
Cough vomiting respiratory distress may occur with the night crawling of worm. But fever it not specific.
She was given syr LEFTLOSE ,that is actually a mucolytic..it helps in reducing the sputum.
You can also give her multivitamins to improve general health. Give her clean drinking water to avoid diarhea, worms etc.
Hope this will help you..regards.
