Can You Get Body Lice From Bus Seat

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Aug 2024
Question: I Have question about body body lice - and its transmission

Can you get body Lice from bus seat ?

As i understand it is unlikely because as it is said in one article - bus, metro and public seat is not interesting for liece

The reason is that lice go where there is food i.e. human blood. Since a seat on the metro offers nothing for lice, the bug is not tempted to go there.

And other article it is also said - it is about head lice, but it very similar with body liece

Taking steps to avoid lice on bus seats is probably not necessary, since again, head lice don’t like to get off of heads and are very rarely transferred from any environment or item other than human contact. Bus seats may be exposed to more people than airplane seats, but most buses have low-backed vinyl or plastic seats nowadays, so simply putting long hair into a bun before getting on the bus should be sufficient to avoid any lice that might be on the seat, which again will be a very rare occurrence.

Risk of getting boy lice from seat is low - as it is not interested to be there

is it so ?

As it likely to be transmitted from very close body contact as for example in overcrowded bus or subway where people are very close to each other

Thank you very much

Brief Answer:
hi,

Detailed Answer:
You are very much right that there are very rare chances of infected with body lice from Bus/aeroplanes or Metro seats etc. as there are least food availability for these. However, we also know that body lices, generally live in the clothings or bedding most of the times & come to body for feeding only. These may also make home in the bus seats or nook & crannies of hard plastic bus seats & from there, these may travel to the body clothings of a person. However, this is not true for head lice,as these prefer to live in hairy portion of body & generally prefer to feed on scalp. I think this may give the answer to your querry. Thanking you.

Hello

About you answer

as you said -
These may also make home in the bus seats or nook & crannies of hard plastic bus seats & from there, these may travel to the body clothings of a person.

If there is no food - why body liece would leav it host ?

As from your first answer i understand it will not transmit from seat

your answer -
You are very much right that there are very rare chances of infected with body lice from Bus/aeroplanes or Metro seats etc. as there are least food availability for these

And then you say it is possible !

How can i understand your answer ?

As i understand it could be possible i rare situation -

but again body liece will not leav it host - as there is no food on seat

Just imagine how many body lice infection would be

as in metro there are lot of homeless person who all have body lice

They sit dowm on seat - and after some time normal person - but in such scenery - normal person dont get body lice -

as there would be so mush case of body lice -
i have site in metro an bus all my life and never get body lice !

And as you !
Have you got body lice just from public seat in bus or train , metro (where lot of homless person have sit) ?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
With due regards,
I do not see a contradiction between your observation & my answer. As for as, to the best of my knowledge, these may leave the body of host to the clothings or bedding etc. in between feeding times,as these are not always on feeding. Similarly, these can also leave the body of host to the seats of bus or metro etc.
As , I already wrote,as well as ,your version, that chances from Bus seats to human trasmission are very much less as compared to transmission from clothes or bedding to human host. Also, the chances become more the less,as usually these are to travel first from the bus seats to clothing of host & then to body of host, thus making the chances more rare for their transmission. With my limited knowledge,I have tried to give you my point of view. You may agree or disagree with my version. Any way this is my knowledge on the subject.
I will like to welcome your point of view on the subject. Thank you very much.Have a nice day.

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Again, with due regards, I agree with your version, that risk catching body lice is low from a public seat, because
they are travelling first from host to clothes of host & then from clothes to public seat. Also, for transmission to other host, these will have to travel again from public seat to clothes & then to new host, thus making the risk many times less, almost to a minimal level. I think that in this matter,we are on the same page. Thank you very much.

hello again - just say plase one short aswer yes
that im righ, risk is very small- and thas all !
Because
I was looking for publication about body liece transmissions - and there was no documented cases about body liece and public seat transmission !

i can not see liece motivation to leav host body to public seat where there is no blood to feed !

and nobody sit on seat nude but with their clothes where live their body liece - who is not motivated to leav host close body clothes, as liece undestad it lose its host !

so this risk is low

as in literature said

Body lice are spread through contact with clothing, bedding, or towels that have been in contact with an infested individual, or through direct physical contact with a person who is infested with body lice

Thank for your help

i like to think positive all the time - and avoid any posible problems. i think you will help me with positive way of thinking !

1.Qestion - how many body lice bites you need to transmit epidemic typhus ?
as i undestand you get it from sraching lice feces in your skin -
if you get one lice and practice good higien and dont get Infestation - you wont get epidemic typhus !
am i right ?

2. about

louse-borne relapsing fever

in lierature it is said

Transmission occurs when the louse is crushed and the infected haemocoel is released onto the human skin. Borrelia recurrentis is able to penetrate intact mucosa and skin. The transmission invokes the death of the louse, hence an individual louse can only infect one person. Consequently, louse-borne relapsing fever outbreaks are dependent on high louse densities in human populations

if i get regular wash and i wash away lice dead body - it will not likley to transmit louse-borne relapsing fever ?
it is logic !

as it is also said that outbrakes depends on high lice density !
so regular higien will not transmit louse-borne relapsing fever ?

Thank you very much !
