Different labs may do the test diffently, so keep in mind that what's normal can vary. If your result is negative, you most likely don't have a problem with blood clots like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) etc.

If your result is high, it indicates you should undergo further investigations to see whether you have a blood clot. D-dimer test can't confirm that you have DVT or PE. It can only help rule out them.

It is important to know that you can also get a high result for reasons other than a blood clot like infection, liver disease, some cancers etc.
