Can You Help Me How Long To Postpone The Surgery As Long As Possible?

Question: I am 71. 5 ft 6 “... 180 lbs....Today my doctor said the X-ray showed bone on bone in the medial meniscus area. The meniscus is torn also ..as.shown on February MRI.... I have to take care of my mother at night and I can’t do the knee teplacement surgery now unless absolutely required! because I can’t help her up from a chair or be on my legs after surgery. Doctor said it wouldn’t help much to do the laparoscopic “ clean up “ knee ysurgery. I had a steroid shot. My plan is weight loss and other ideas to postpone surgery as long as I can.... I took physical therapy for 8 weeks and it helped some of the pain... I’m doing exercises at home!!! I have heard about Synvisc gel injections... the hyaluronic injection.... Doctor please comment on what you would do in my situation. What can help
me postpone the surgery as long as possible??? I don’t use a cane, and the pain is about a 6 on a 10 scale.

Brief Answer:
Synvisc gel injections will help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns ,
You have age related osteosrthritic changes in your knee. To delay the surgery Synvisc gel injections will help. Losing some weight and doing a regular physiotherapy will also help a lot.
You can start with regular calcium and joint lubricant supplement like Glucosamine to decrease the further progression of the problem.

Brief Answer:
You can do these in moderation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can walk around on an inside cushioned track and can even try a stationary bike as long as it does not aggravate your pain. You can start these initially and gradually increase the time on weekly basis so as not to overstress your knees.
Hope my answer is helpful.
