Can You Help Me With Colitis? My Wife 28 Year

Question: Can you help me with colitis? My wife 28 year old female was recently diagnosed with colitis via ct scan. Her symptoms are nausea abdominal pain, the ct said the colon was decompressed and periodic inflammatory stranding, mainly on the right side. She has never had this before. She also had a uti according to a urine test. Can colitis cause an uti since the anatomy is in the same area. The hospital did a cbc which everything looked fine. Her family doesn't have any history or crohns or ulcerative colitis. would you think this would be caused by an infection. the hospital perceived flagyl and levofloxacin, which is make her nauseous. Your thoughts? thanks

Answer is given below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
It is more likely she has colitis due to infection.
It is unlikely that she has ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
The colitis will resolve if she completes the course of the prescribed antibiotics.
Nausea she has is a common side effect of the antibiotics that have been prescribed.
If nausea is very bothersome she can take Zofran. If she has a metallic taste, she can mask it by taking mint.
