Child Having High Red Blood Cell Count In Urine. What Could Be The Reason?

default
Posted on Wed, 13 Nov 2013
Question: My 12 year old son had a high red blood cell count in his urine. What would be some of the reason for that? Would an adult's urine have less red blood cells than a child would have in their urine? Why?

Brief Answer:
Pls.look for additional features in urine analysis

Detailed Answer:
welcome to the forum.
There is no difference between adults and children in this.
In addition to the red cells, other things to be looked into are----------.
1. pus cells
2. protein in urine.
If pus cells are also present, it means infection.
If only dysmorphic RBC (red blood cells) are present, it means there is inflammation of the kidneys and hence he has to be evaluated accordingly.
Hope this helps..
Best regards
