Child Having Runny Nose And Cough. Giving Alaspan Ag, Montair Lc And Augmentin Syrup. Any Advice?
My daughter 2.10 yrs old , was initially having running nose and little cough for 15 days.... pediatrician prescribed syp. Alaspan AG and Montair LC KID tablet( for 15 days)....After one week the cough was still persisting, so doctor added syp.Augmentin duo along with other two.
After taking the medicine for two days my daughter is coughing more from today. I have started giving nebulization of (levolin+NS)..iS THERE ANY THING I SHOULD DO..Please advice
Thanks for the query.
Alaspan contains one anti histamine and another drug which dissolves phlegm. Montair Lc Kid also contains antihistamine plus a drug for preventing wheezing attacks. Augmentin is an antibiotic.
Have you started levolin on doctor's advice or by yourself?
Is your child a known wheezer? - In a known wheezer, parents will be able to identify wheezing from the symptoms!
Based on the history provided, I suggest the following:
1. If you are giving Alspan AG, then plain montair instead of montair lc kid can be used. Because 2 antihistamines are not necessary!
2. Remember the cough of viral infections and that of wheezing takes time to completely subside. So do not worry; even though as parents it is difficult for you to see the child suffering from cough!
3 Give the child food early by 6-7 pm and make him sleep with slightly elevated head end for night cough.
4. Levolin nebuliser is good for wheezing... Get your pediatrician to guide you for duration and dosage of use.
5. Sometimes your pediatrician may decide to use short course of steroids during wheezing attacks. Do not be scared.
Hope this information was useful. Let me know if you have other concerns.
All the best!!!

My doctor had prescribed syp. Alaspan AG for 1 week that dosage is completed by yesterday, so he is now having Montair Lc Kid alone(1 tab/day), along with Augmentin duo (2 times a day of 5 ml).
She is now not wheezing, but coughs a lot while sleeping.
Lat time my doctor had suggested Levolin(0.25)+NS(1ml) so iam continuing the same.
I also have duolin and budasel repsules, will changing the nebulizer make her cough less ? Please advice... she also has running nose...
Thanks
Thanks again.
I happen to be on line - so I am able to respond to your query immediately!
Regarding your first query I would suggest montair lc kid for a week or two and then plain montair if it needs to be continued for a longer time of 6-12 months.
Regarding nebuliser, plain levolin is OK. Duolin can also be used if wheezing had not improved with plain levolin.
The other respule you have mentioned is a combination drug with steroid. Use it on your doctor's advice after examination of the child.
Persistent night cough is also a symptom of wheezing, so you may have to continue levolin for some more time. If the cough is only dry without wheezing, you can get some cough syrup prescribed by your doctor.
However as I said earlier this cough will take some time. Do not worry.
Hope this answers your query. If you have any other doubts, please ask.
Good luck and all the best!!!
