Child With Blood In Stool, Loose Stools, Dehydration. Treated With Antibiotics. Taking Taxim, Metrogyl And Enterogermina

Thanks for posting your query .
Your child was suffering from most probably an acute bacterial gastroenteritis or dysentery which requires complete antibiotic course for resolution. The antibiotics prescribed( taxim o and metrogyl ) seem appropriate and probiotics like enterogermina help in increasing the gut immunity . Since the frequency of diarrhoea has decreased it seems to be an appropriate response and complete stoppage can be expected only after completing the prescribed course of antibiotics .
However I would like to recommend that if his symptoms persist to be same without any improvement after 4 days of starting the oral antibiotic then you should discuss with your doctor about
1. addition of a zinc and multivitamin supplement which is shown to promote faster recovery in gastroenteritis .
2. Possibility of a resistance to antibiotic which can be determined by stool culture test and if required the antibiotic might be changed to a more sensitive one.
Please do not worry as at present the situation doesn't seem worrisome and it does take time to get fully resolved.
Meanwhile the most important thing you can do for your child is to keep join well hydrated by giving frequent sips of oral rehydration solution throughout the day along with plenty of usual home available fluid intake.
Once his hydration and nutrition improve, his diarrhoea will resolve faster.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing him a speedy recovery .
Regards
