Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Your daughter has been given the Antibiotic for sore throat and Acetaminophen for fever. The treatment she is getting is correct but the cough and congestion do take some time to subside in spite of best medicines.

There are some general measures that can help you in reducing the problem-
1. Avoid dust, excessive humidity, sudden change in temperatures and any known allergen.
2. Use XXXXXXX warm water for drinking.
3. Give her steam inhalation twice daily - Take hot water in a vessel, put eucalyptus oil in it. Tell the child to inhale it by covering him with a blanket. You can take your baby in the lap and cover yourself with blanket. See to it that fans/AC are not on during this and after some time also i.e. around 10-15 minutes.
4. Avoid all irritants like perfumes, soot, etc.
5. Application of warm cloth, hot water bottle or gel pack to face and chest for 5-10 minutes relieves pain and inflammation to some extent.
6. Use nasal decongestant, normal saline or steroid drops or sprays for decongestion which encourages drainage. You can get these prescribed from your Pediatrician.
7. Use a humidifier in their room.

You can go for a follow up visit to your Pediatrician to get her throat swab culture done if the symptoms are not relieved.

Hope this answers your query.

I will be glad to answer the follow up queries if any.

Regards.
