Continue Losartan As Prescribed Is It Safe?

Posted on Tue, 20 Dec 2022
Question: I recently started taking blood pressure medication. Blood pressure was 150/100 when I began. I was on Diovan started with 160 went down to 80 and cut it in half so 40. 6 days ago they switched me to Losartan 25. Would the equivalent of Diovan 40 be to cut Losartan 25 in half? Second question. I have experienced over all tingling for several years along with head tingling and hot spots etc. since I started taking blood pressure medicine this has increased and have had sharp pains in my head ( I have had those throughout my life) but these have become more frequent since taking blood pressure medication. The only other medication I take is Synthroid 88 one day 100 the other and have for 40 years , I am 62. So my main question is , is an increase in head pain, tingling common with blood pressure medication. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Continue Losartan as prescribed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Losartan 25 mg can be considered almost equivalent to Diovan 40 mg.
Losartan is a very effective medication in reducing blood pressure. The medication can sometimes cause headache in the beginning. The worsening of tingling you are experiencing is.likely due to anxiety associated with starting a new medication.
However, you do not need the o be anxious at all. Losartan is a very safe and effective medication that is commonly used.
Once your body gets used to the medication, you will notice the side effects also fading away.
You can also follow DASH (Dietary approach to stop hypertension) diet. The details of the diet can be found easily online.
Also, make sure that you exercise daily like brisk walking for 30 minutes everyday.
Please be advised to continue losartan and prescribed.
