Could A Colonoscopy Dislodge The IUD And Cause Vaginal Bleeding?
Question: I had a colonoscopy Friday a.m. woke up at 1:00 a.m Sunday to bright red vaginal bleeding. I have had a Mirena IUD for 12 years and haven’t had heavy bleeding since then. Could colonoscopy dislodge the IUD? Or is vaginal bleeding following colonoscopy normal? I am 47, they removed one polyp. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Can dislodge
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Colonoscopy can dislodge the IUCD when the colonoscope passes in the rectum behind the uterus.
Colonoscopy, per se, does not lead to vaginal bleeding.
I will suggest you consult an OBGYN specialist and get an internal examination with ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
