Could An Ovarian Cyst Or A Fibroid Cause A Positive Pregnancy Test?
Question: I am 48 yrs old have an ovarian cyst and a 7 x 6 x 5 fibroid. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in about 6 weeks. Today I had a positive pregnancy test. Can the fibroid cause this?
Brief Answer:
No. The fibroid cannot cause a positive pregnancy test.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The fibroid does not cause a positive pregnancy test.
A positive pregnancy test can occur in a non-pregnant situation when chorionic gonadotropin is present in the serum through an external source, for example, a supplement, or through secretion.
Moreover, home pregnancy tests are not reliable if performed before the expected period and if not standard. An estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres is more reliable in such scenario.
Hope I have answered your query.
