Question: Could gastritis cause palpitations, irregular heart beats, coughing and/or shortness of breath? If not, what could? I'm a 28 year-old male and I've been in and out of ER three times in the past couple weeks due to chest pains and a number of other symptoms as listed below. Based on the blood test, EKG, X-ray, and ultrasound results, each time I was told that the problem wasn't the heart, it was something else. They said it could be gastritis, so I just want more opinions on this. Symptoms are as follows: 1)Irregular heart beats (when I feel palpitations, I put my finger on my wrist and I detect double heart beats that happen fast, then it goes back to regular rhythm). 2)Burning sensation around the chest. 3)Dry coughing. 4)Shortness of breath. 5)Sharp chest pains. 6)Upper abdominal pain (right and left side). 7)Back pain (below the left shoulder blade). 8)Anxious feeling. All of these symptoms come and go, and they happen frequently and randomly. Currently I'm on Pepcid and Bentyl (these two drugs were prescribed during my second ER visit. In my first ER visit, they prescribed me Ibuprofen).

Brief Answer:
A number of causes

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but if heart-related problems were excluded by an ECG and an echocardiogram, then I would recommend that you get a stool analysis for h.pylori infection which can cause chest pain, shortness of breath and coughing due to increased acidity.. if the stool analysis was free then you should get an ultrasound or ct scan abdomen to exclude a hiatal hernia and gallbladder inflammation or stones. If excluded then you should consider an upper GIT endoscopy to exclude peptic ulcers. Also please stop ibuprofen as it might cause further irritation to your stomach in case of gastritis.

I hope you find this helpful.
