Could Low Vitamin-D Level Be The Reason For Irregular Sizes In An Infant's Ribs?

Question: Hello Doctor,
A couple of days back, i noticed in that my 8 months old little angel's left rib was slightly flared when compared to the right rib. When i lift her up above my head, i can see that her left bottom most rib is bigger than that of the right. She does not seem to be in pain, She is feeding ok and her sleep is also fine. Consulted a paediatrician who said it could be due to Vitamin D deficiency. I did a blood test and the Vitamin D level was 24.10.
Is this something to worry? Will the left rib which looks like it is swollen get back to normal position?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D levels are low...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Vitamin D levels of 24 is slightly lower than ideal values. But most infants are advised vitamin D supplements for a year. I hope she is on it.

As far as the ribs are concerned, it doesn't seem to be obviously concerning / significant. But you feel the size / shape is obviously concerning, discuss with the doctor about getting Chest X-ray. It will help us determine if the changes you noticed are significant and if it is related to any medical condition.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
