Question: Sooo it seems as tho my 4 month old had hand foot mouth disease and by the time we noticed it was only because he wasnt eating so i took him to the childrens hospital where they gave him fluids. I noticed very tiny blisters by his hands but nothing else besides a fever that i thought stemmed from him teething. Well baby boy seems 1000 percent better but now i am noticing a spot here and there on my hands and feet and im totally freaking out. Dmhow long after an initial bump from hfm does it take to get really bad or could it stay mild? I have only had a headache and a slight soreness in my throat no fever and no mouth sores Also worried about meningitis from this what are the chances?!please help google hasnt helped me at all.

Brief Answer:
Meningitis and encephalitis are very rare complications.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Hand foot and mouth disease is a mild viral infection that goes away with few symptoms and usually with no complications. The only thing to worry is dehydration of child because drinking becomes difficult from mouth blisters.

You are an adult and symptoms will be even milder. The meningitis and encephalitis are very rare complications of hand foot and mouth disease. They can occur in persons with compromised immunity which means that undergo chemotherapy, or suffer from HIV-AIDS, or have leukemia etc. This complications are very rare so you don't have to worry about it.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
