Could Sneezing And A Sore Nostril Mean I Have Gotten A Scratch From The Cannula That Is Causing These Issues?

Question: Hi, I had a colonoscopy today and had oxygen. One nostril is now very sore and I am sneezing and have a runny nose. I had no symptoms before the procedure. Could I have gotten a scratch from the cannula that is causing these issues?

Hello,

Yes, nasal cannula gives such symptoms in some patients.
As nasal catheter irritates nasal mucusa, so there is resultant soreness.
As the mucosa is damaged a bit , there is viral colonization and resultant sneezing and runny nose.
Do not worry.
You should take antihistaminic as levocetrizine and antinflammatory drug as ibuprofen for 4 or 5 days.
Also take steam inhalation.
You will be cured with these.
