Could There Still Be A Possibility Of Me Having HIV Through A Needle While Drawing Blood Even Though I Tested Negative?
Question: This is really stupid but I've been tested for HIV at Labcorp and the result came back negative but for some reason I still feel uneasy about it and can't stop thinking about it. I keep feeling like somehow I got the virus through the process of getting my blood drawn itself if the needle was reused accidentally. People say it's not possible but I saw an article about how this same problem caused 40,000 people to be exposed to and possibly catch disease like HIV or Hepatitis C so I'm just worried. https://www.XXXX.com/health/article/YYYY-0000
Brief Answer:
Considerations.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query.
I understand your concerns but rest assured - regulations are in place which mandate use of new and sterile needles for any blood draws. This eliminates the risk for HIV.
With a negative blood test result you should also be confident that you do not carry the HIV virus.
Try not to focus on thoughts of unreasonable and unlikely risk - as this will only create more anxiety.
Wishing you continued excellent health.
