Could This Be A Really Bad Flare Up Of Fibromyalgia?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jan 2025
Question: Hi! 10 days ago I got extreme body aches (like the flu) but had no other symptoms. By day 2 the body aches were excruciating and continued with an intense headache, my skin hurt to touch etc. This continued for 6 days where the pain was all over my body and on day 7-9 the pain subsided from my body but continued in my neck/head. The only thing that seemed to really help was a bath or shower which I took multiple of a day. Today (day 10) is the first day I woke up feeling decent. I received my blood work back from the urgent care and was comparing from blood work I had 1 month prior and my history blood work dates back to 2019 so I can see all numbers and a graph of my history.
Here is what stood out to me, but the urgent care said to call my general in a month. I feel like my body is having some kind of flare (I have very similar symptoms to fibromyalgia) but wanted to get a second opinion on here.
These were the red flags, everything else was normal on my blood work.
ALT (SGPT) XXXXXXX 2021- 16, March 2021 -19, Current- 103
AST (SGOT) XXXXXXX 2021 -10, March 2021-8, Current -116
My platelets also since 2019 have floated between 306-360 range.
Platelets: Jan- 361, March 340 and current is 102
WBC: My WBC range from 2019 is between 5-7.
Jan- 5.3, March- 9.9 (I thought this might be from Covid vaccine #2 I received Feb 28) Current- 2.3

Can someone please give me guidance or help me! I have never had such a terrible amount of pain all over my body and I can’t function like this. I am 39, a mom of 3 kids, 5’7” and 140 lbs and overall healthy minus some anemia issues. (I received an iron infusion February 23 which is get every 12-18 months) as my body can’t seem to hold iron, but doctor doesn’t know the cause. Could this be a really bad flare up of fibromyalgia? What should I do about my liver numbers? It looks extremely high compared to a month ago and I don’t want to do major damage to my body while I wait for an appt with my general doctor. Thank you so much for any and all feedback.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Both your ALT and AST are significantly elevated. Your AST is more than ALT.
Your platelets are on the lower side.
All these are possible with viral infections.
Was an abdominal scan done?
What about your total protein and albumin numbers?
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

No scans of any sort were done. The urgent care doc is telling me to just go to my primary care which I can’t get into for 3 weeks.
Total Protein= 6.6
Albumin= 3.6

I can link you to my test results thru MyChart if possible on your end.
Thanks.

Also, I keep reading info on alcohol consumption. My alcohol history is super minimal (drink 1-2 times per month). I did have 2 mimosas on Sunday/Easter.

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Occasional alcohol drinking is not responsible for this.
Your protein numbers indicate that you do not have chronic liver disease.
You can repeat the liver panel after 4 weeks.
Meanwhile you can take milk thistle which will help your liver cells recover.

Dr.R.K.
