Question: I am a 45 year old female. My period is currently about a week late. I took a pregnancy test(negative). Could this be the start of perimenopause? I have also been having episodes where my face feels hot and a bit red.

Brief Answer:
It is related to perimenopause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes. The delay in periods with negative pregnancy test at your age is suggestive of perimenopause. The feeling of hotness and redness is called hot flushes and is also common in this perimenopausal age and happens due to hormonal changes in the body.
It is best to start taking a good multivitamin and wait for your periods. Getting a serum FSH levels tested will help in further confirmation.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
