Could Ureaplasma Be Asymptomatic For A Long Time?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Apr 2014
Question: Could Ureaplasma urealyticum be asymptomatic for a long time before you start with symptoms? I have been in a monogamous relationship for 2 years and recently presented uretritis. My partner claims she has not been with anybody else and I trust her, but still think that is very strange not to have symptoms after 2 years. Does ureaplasma mean infidelity?

Brief Answer: Yes, it can remain asymptomatic Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to Healthcare Magic Ureaplasma urealyticum is a normal commensal of genital tract in both men and women. Though it is a part of normal genital flora,it can cause non-specific urethritis (NSU). This organism can exist as normal commensal flora in the reproductive tract (especially in women) and remain undetected for longer period of time unless specifically tested for the organism. If you are having the symptoms of urethritis you and your partner should take a course of tab Azithromycin for 5 days. Also,i would advice you and your wife not to engage in sexual activity till the infection gets cured. Hope you are happy with the answer. If any further queries, feel free to post them. Thank you.
