Dear Doctor Chakrabortry, I Am Having Heartburn Constantly Since March
Question: Dear Doctor Chakrabortry,
I am having heartburn constantly since March with throat pain:
- The heartburn started approx once each week but now it is almost everyday even if I watch what I eat (non acidic, no coffee)
- The throat pain is happening all the time, especially at night while sleeping. I went to a "throat doctor" (Otolaryngologists) and he said there is nothing.
I am taking Pantroprazol which helps for around 2 hours
I have an appointment to do gastroscopy on 17th of October. I m not sure if it is dangerous to wait until then or I should visit a doctor again!

Hii. Please consult an Ent surgeon and Gastroenterologist early. Don't wait till october. Get an endoscopy of the larynx and gastroscopy done. Its very important to rule out whether this pain is from acid reflux or there is any pathology present. If there is any acid reflux then you have continue medicine along with life style modification. Drink more water. Avoid spicy food, beverages. Sleep after two hours of dinner. But if you have any lesion then it can be treated accordingly and if possible early. I will also tell you to consult a general physician also as cardiac problems can also present as heartburn and get a ecg and echocardiogram done. Please review if you have any queries.
