Dear Doctor, I Have Experienced Been Carrying Around A Number
I have experienced been carrying around a number of strange and deeply burdensome symptoms for a number of years now. The first wave of sumptoms began in 2012, when my sleep became very poor and shallow, and my digestion compromised. the second wave occured in 2017, when I began to experience other stange symptoms, primarily neurological in nature. I began to stutter while speaking; I began to have greater difficulties in reading and comprehension; a minor change took place in my skull structure; my brain (or the area around my brain) always feels mildly swollen and inflamed, so that I can’t enter into deep sleep because this fire/swelling/inflammation seems to keep me always alert and vigilant. In addition, during this second wave of issues, my digestion became even worse: my stools come out fluffy, oily/greasy, and light-colored, oftentimes appearing as though including much undigested food.
I have done so much over the years to find a diagnosis. i have spent roughly $10,000 in medical testing and appointments with specialists. There is one thing, however, which I have not done: I have not spoken with an Infectious Disease Specialist. Analyzing myself for years, I have a feeling there might be some bacteria, parasite or virus in my body all these years causing all these neurological, digestive and sleep issues. I was wondering whether you could tell me whether there exists some comprehensive bacteria and parasite test that I could take; and if so, how I could go about it.
Please share your thoughts.
Respectfully,
Kacper
It can be related to a psychological issue.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I don't think that the symptoms you are having are related primarily to any infectious disease, bacteria, viruses or intestinal parasites.
You can do a stool sample to check for bacteria and parasites and exclude this option.
The next thing to do is to check thyroid doing doing an ultrasound of thyroid and hormone tests (T3,T4,TSH).
Hyperthyroidism can cause sleeplessness, alertness and diarrhea as well.
Do an MRI of brain to check about the symptoms of slurred speech, comprehensive difficulties and swelling
If the thyroid and MRIb are normal then you may need to visit a psychiatrist.
The psychological issues can cause the alertness, sleeplessness, confusion and as well as diarrhea. Psychological issues can cause irritable bowel syndrome which can lead to diarrhea.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
