Dear Doctor, We Are Doing IVF Treatment. Next Month They
We are doing IVF treatment. Next month they are going to do Embryo transfer. My wife's age is 32yrs and her blood pressure is 130 to 140/90 to 100 mmhg. One doctor have prescribed Methyldopa 250 mg twice daily. But we heared that methyldopa will increase prolactin level. Before embryo transfer in IVF centre they are checking prolactin level and they are expecting it to be in normal level. so we are confused now to take methyldopa. Another doctor said to take Labetalol. Please advise us which is safe drug methyldopa or labetalol and in what dosage should she take?
Also she got pregnant two years before naturally and she had an abortion in third month. During that time her prolactin level was elevated after D&C. Now her prolactin level is in normal.so only we are confused to take methyldopa. So please tell us whether to take methyldopa or labetalol now.
Final decision regarding labetalol to be taken by your doctor
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings
I have gone through your query. You are absolutely right as methyl dopa increases prolactin in some patients. What was the indication for IVF?
Male factor or female factor?
If the prolactin was high before , your treating ivf consultant would definitely take care of it with medicines.
Now Coming to the BP medicines , the choice should be with your IVF Consultant , as she is taking care of your Embryo transfer and post transfer care.
Labetalol may be preferred over methyl dopa in view of increased dopamine levels. Please discuss with your IVF Consultant.
Feel free to ask your doubt with more details .
