Dear Doctors, I Have Been Having Postnasal Drip At Night

Question: Dear Doctors,
I have been having postnasal drip at night for the past 9 weeks and I start coughing when I lay down on my bed. Initially, I coughed after eating, but that subsided. Also took some proton pump inhibitors, but they started to give me anxiety after I went to sleep so I stopped.
Now 10 weeks later I still cough in the morning when I wake up in the morning, but I am okay when in the daytime. No coughs all day but increased sweating in the morning for a few hours. Do you think I am having some allergies to our new apartment or new dog or do you think I developed sinusitis that does not go away? My daughter which is nine years old has the same symptoms, but less severe.
What do you think the cause of this is and what medications would you recommend now. In the morning I have a bit of difficulty breathing, but it goes away after about 3-4 hours.
Thank You
Inge

Brief Answer:
Yes, this might be due to allergy.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
Yes, this might be due to nasal allergies, post nasal drip.
You have to take montelukast and fexofenadine combination once a day at night before going to sleep for 2 weeks.
Along with this medicine, also do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day especially at night before going to sleep and in the morning after wake up.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX
Thank you for your speedy reply. Before I moved into my apartment I say yellow stains on my walls so I had them paint over it. I hope it is not mold. I bleached my walls last week and it seems now that my walls smell like wet socks.
So I am not sure if it is mold or not. I also got a puppy which is a puddle around the same time. Can a little dog cause such a reaction? I don't have a stuffy nose when I am around my dog in the daytime. It all happens when I lay horizontal.
I am a bit worried about having undiagnosed covid, but for 10 weeks? Are my symptoms common for someone suffering from allergies? Even the increased sweat in the morning. I can walk across the street, move around for a bit and my whole body is sweaty, but that is only in the morning. I never had allergies so I don't know.

PS: I tried Claratyn and Zertec and Robitussin, but all 3 seem to be giving my palpitations at night. I go to sleep just fine, but wake up later with palpitations and a racing heart. so will those meds be okay? Then I will go to my go to my GP and get them prescribed.

Thank you. I got the montelukast from my medical doctor, but he said the fexofenadine in Singapore was not advisable as it can have psychological side effects. Do you have a second one to recommend? I already feel better today and can breathe fuller thanks.
Brief Answer:
Levocetrizine if available can be taken.
